The Lavender Effect — An Extended Look
THE ORAL HISTORY PROJECT IS A POWERFUL COLLECTION OF VIDEO TESTIMONIES
Last year, I had the honor of contributing video-recorded testimony on behalf of The Lavender Effect whose mission includes, among other things, to:
- Educate the public and LGBTQ community about the important historical contributions of LGBTQ people to world civilization, as well as to California’s specific economic, political, and social development (FAIR Education Act).
- Showcase the full spectrum of LGBTQ diversity, human sexuality and identification through immersive exhibits, cultural programs, interactive media, and scholarly research opportunities.
The testimony is one of MANY other video stories gleaned from a broad, diverse spectrum of individuals that — together — make up the organization’s Oral History Project (OHP). These testimonies will be utilized for educational instruction, interactive exhibits, documentaries, and more.

Casey Weitzman is the Director of Gender Wellness of Los Angeles and has been a licensed marriage and family therapist for 30+ years, counseling children and adults who are exploring gender identity and/or sexual orientation issues. She is an active member of WPATH (World Professional Association of Transgender Health), CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists), and AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists).
