Mission Statement

DEDICATED TO promoting inclusivity, diversity and compassion IN THE LIVES OF TRANS AND GENDER-DIVERSE FOLKS

To provide mental health services and resources that enable transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals — and their families — to thrive”

Gender Wellness of Los Angeles is dedicated to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and compassion in our Transgender community.

Gender Wellness of Los Angeles is dedicated to a continuum that extends beyond face-to-face psychotherapy with our clients: by educating ourselves and others with steadfast intention towards normalizing the lives of TGD individuals while promoting inclusivity, diversity and compassion for the LGBTQ+ population as a whole.

There are many ways in which we connect with the community and our colleagues to further our mission. This includes an active membership in the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). After several years — and with the contributions of qualified clinicians all over the globe — the organization has published Standards of Care, Version 8. It’s quite extensive and impressive. Like previous versions, it provides guidelines — for insurance companies, parents, clients and patients — that are careful not to shame or pathologize TGD individuals.

Increased public visibility and awareness of TGD people has been met with blowback recently — in part, the result of conservative political agendas that seek power through division instead of uniting folks by fostering a greater understanding of diversity. In spite of the pendulum swing, we remain confident that progress will overcome — love ultimately conquers hate! We know this because more and more providers, hospitals and clinics welcome the gender-expansive community as the collective, societal conversation continues to evolve.

Gender Wellness of Los Angeles is excited to be a small part of the solution, nurturing our clients, young and old. They come through our doors questioning themselves, feeling depressed, anxious and uncertain. Within a short amount of time, they begin to find themselves and explore questions of gender identity. Some transition and some don’t, but together they find their own answers, feeling respected and supported. Time and time again, we have witnessed their ability to move forward, suffer less, and blossom — going to college, finding jobs, making new friendships and finding love — all while being their truest, most authentic selves.
