Nupur Agrawal, MD, MPH
Pediatrician
Dr. Nupur Agrawal is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UCLA and practices primary care at the UCLA Medicine-Pediatrics Comprehensive Care Clinic in Santa Monica, California where she provides personalized, compassionate, and comprehensive care to patients of all ages. Her clinical interests are broad and include primary and preventive care for all patients, adolescent medicine, advocating for improved access to healthcare as well as for human rights, and resident and medical student education. She is also a member of the UCLA Gender Health Program and provides primary and gender-health-related care to transgender and gender-diverse patients.
Jessica M. Bernacki, PhD
Pediatric Psychologist
Dr. Bernacki is a pediatric psychologist who received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2012. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at UCLA in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Bernacki has been a Staff Psychologist in the Department of Medicine since 2013. She is the Director of Behavioral Health for the UCLA Gender Health Program and has been the primary psychologist for the program since it was founded in 2016. Outside of work, Dr. Bernacki enjoys reading, being outdoors, and playing games with her children.
George Rudkin, MD
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Specialist
Dr. Rudkin, MD has over 33 years of experience in the medical field, currently serving as a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at UCLA. A Board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Rudkin has been a UCLA faculty member since 1999. He serves as the program director for the UCLA plastic surgery training program and is, also, the Chief of Plastic Surgery at the West Los Angeles Veteran Association Medical Center.

Rebecca Rada (they/them), MD
Family Medicine
Dr. Rebecca Rada (they/them) is a queer, non-binary Family Medicine trained physician and a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at UCLA. They are also a part of the Gender Health Program and were the prior LGBTQ+ Primary Care Fellow at UCLA from 2021-2022. Their clinical interests include transgender/gender diverse care and hormone management for adolescents and adults, LGBTQ+ primary care, HIV primary care, PrEP, STI prevention and treatment, addiction medicine, and providing equitable care to marginalized groups. Originally from the Midwest, they received their Masters in Biomedical Sciences from Kansas City University in 2014 prior to obtaining their Osteopathic Medical Degree from Kansas City University in 2018. While in medical school, they also received their MBA in Healthcare Leadership from Rockhurst University, Helzberg School of Management. They completed their Family Medicine residency in St. Louis, Missouri in 2021.
Amy Weimer, MD
Pediatrician
Throughout her career, Dr. Weimer has developed a commitment to caring for our transgender and gender-diverse community, and in 2016 she co-founded the UCLA Gender Health Program, wherein she provides primary care and hormone management for patients of all ages. She is active in education to a wide variety of audiences and participates in research to improve the health of transgender and gender-diverse people.
Dr. Weimer attended Brown University in Rhode Island where she majored in neuroscience and attended medical school at UC San Diego. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, followed by a year as chief resident in Internal Medicine. She has since practiced primary care for adults and children.
Marci Bowers, MD
Gender-Affirming Surgeon
Dr. Marci Bowers, MD, is a pioneer in the field of gender-affirming surgery and is the first transgender woman to perform such surgeries. Recently, she was elected President of WPATH, the first transgender woman to hold the post. Bowers began working with trans folks in the mid-1990’s, prior to her transition, and currently serves on the Trevor Project Board of Directors. Previously, she has served on the Boards of GLAAD and the Transgender Law Center.
Over the years, Dr. Bowers has been called upon — or been the subject of — numerous documentaries, interviews, news reports, and articles. Media appearances have included The Oprah Winfrey Show (2007), The Tyra Banks Show (5 episodes), The Today Show, and CBS Sunday Morning feature. She is also the featured surgeon in the six-part 2006-2007 television series Sex Change Hospital. In May 2020, The Times featured Bowers on their Science Power List.
Toby Meltzer, MD
Gender-Affirming Surgeon
Dr. Toby Meltzer, MD is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has been performing Gender Reassignment Surgery since the early ’90s. Dr. Meltzer is widely recognized as one of the leading surgeons in the field of Gender Surgery, having completed over 4000 gender-affirming surgeries. He currently performs approximately 200 genital reconstruction surgery cases per year in Scottsdale, Arizona and Portland, Oregon.
Paria Hassouri, MD

Paria Hassouri is a mother of three, a pediatrician (on staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center), and transgender rights activist. Her personal essays — particularly resonating for parents of transgender youth — have been published by the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, Women’s Running Magazine, among others. She has written the critically-acclaimed memoir, Found In Transition: A Mother’s Evolution During Her Child’s Gender Change.

Richard Horowitz, MD, FACP
Hormone Therapy Consultant
Dr. Horowitz has close to thirty years experience in trans-specific, comprehensive medical care — from hormone therapy to routine health and chronic medical conditions. He established The Center for Transgender Medicine in Beverly Hills, where he treats transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a distinction reserved for those internists who have demonstrated superior academic commitments and teaching skills. Dr. Horowitz is the recipient of the Cedars-Sinai Distinguished Physicians Award, and was inducted into the Circle of Friends of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is a past nominee for the Cedars-Sinai Humanitarian Award.
Dr. Joanne Barron, PsyD, NMP
Psychologist & Co-Founder
Dr. Barron is a licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing in Sherman Oaks and Westwood. Her specialties include treating developmental and shock trauma as well as addictions. Additionally, she was co-owner of Insight Treatment Program, along with her husband for over 25 years. During her years working in addiction treatment, Dr. Barron became interested in its relationship to developmental and relational trauma. After completing her Doctorate at Ryokan College she developed a specialty in treating trauma seeing it at the root of much mental illness and addiction.
Dr. Barron is trained in the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) both levels one and two, is a certified Attachment-Focused -EMDR therapist, a certified NARM Practitioner (Neuro Affective Relational Model) and currently is one of the training assistant’s for NARM. Dr. Barron has also studied interpersonal neuro-biology and is a member of the Dr. Allan Schore study group focusing on advancements in Attachment Theory, Affect Regulation Theory and neuroscience. Additionally she is a certified Trauma Professional Professional through IATP.
Dr. Lynne Friedman-Gell, PhD, NMT

Lynne Friedman-Gell, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and trauma specialist with offices in Studio City and Sherman Oaks. She works extensively with adolescents and adults on issues of addiction, developmental and shock trauma, anxiety and mood disorders, along with attachment and relational disorders, and dual-diagnosis issues such as personality disorders and self-harming behaviors. Lynne offers individual therapy, family/couples therapy, group therapy, supervision, and consultation.
Lynne has a Certification in EMDR, and specializes in Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, (AF-EMDR). Lynne is also certified as a practitioner of the NeuroAffective Relational Model of Psychology (NARM), part of the NARM training assistant’s, completed Level I and II in the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) and utilizes an integration of psychodynamic therapy, somatic experiencing, psychobiology, and mindfulness in her clinical practice.
Stacy Cohen, MD

Dr. Cohen is the founder of The Moment, physician-owned and managed wellness community offering a variety of behavioral health services. Dr. Cohen is a double board certified general and addiction psychiatrist, licensed in Nevada, New York and California. She completed her residency training at the University of Chicago and Rush University, where she was the chief of reproductive psychiatry, and her addiction fellowship at UCLA Medical Center.
Prior to The Moment, Dr. Cohen was the Medical Director of several large addiction treatment programs in the Los Angeles area, which included all levels of care including detox, residential treatment, and intensive outpatient treatment. She has been involved in community education regarding mental health treatment and has published medical literature on a variety of mental health topics. She currently holds a teaching faculty appointment at UCLA.

Michelle Gordon

Michelle Gordon is a graduate of BIOLA University with an undergraduate degree in Communicative Disorders and received a Master’s Degree in Communicative Disorders from California State University Fullerton. After she learned that transgender patients are greatly under-served by the medical community — let alone, by speech pathologists — Michelle Gordon dedicated significant time to learn how to best serve transgender clients. She was trained by two of the most well-respected and published professionals who focus on transgender communication. From her small clinic in Costa Mesa, she works with a (relatively) few patients. Outside of her private practice, Michelle teaches at California State University Fullerton and often guest lectures at universities helping to build the next generation of speech pathologists.

Voice is important to quality of life. UCLA’s work is in alignment with The World Professional Association for Transgender Health guidelines that state, “The overall purpose of voice and communication therapy is to help clients adapt their voice and communication in a way that is both safe and authentic, resulting in communication patterns that clients feel are congruent with their gender identity and that reflect their sense of self.” They provide voice services in a gender affirming environment.
