We’re Not Going Anywhere. Gender Wellness of Los Angeles is here for you. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the results of the latest U.S. Presidential election? You’re not alone. We’re aware that access to gender-affirming care is on the line, and we’re here to help.
From GWLA President & Founder Casey Weitzman, MA, LMFT:
“Everything feels surreal. I’m not sure how to handle this news in regards to my family, for many of my friends, and all the clients we serve here at Gender Wellness of Los Angeles.
The news of this election is tragic, and it will affect the lives of many transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary folks across the country. How much more can TGD+ folks, young and old, endure? Every day, we see young trans kids dealing with discrimination at school, lack of parental support, and above all, trying to love themselves in a world that tells them not to.
We recognize that access to Transgender Healthcare is becoming increasingly harder to access. We have made such progress (especially in California), but it all feels so fragile. We know how the President-elect feels about women; he has told us he wants to control our bodies, threaten gay marriage, and eliminate the ability to access hormones and other lifesaving services—which include mental health care.
We would like to say first of all, that GWLA is not going anywhere, but to our trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse community, I must say these 3 things:
- Have a plan. Work with your doctor and get your medications in order.
- If you haven’t already, work on getting all your legal documents updated or changed. Name and gender change especially. There are resources we can provide you with if you need assistance.
- There are 3 months before the changing of the guards. So come out, take good care of yourself, and do everything you can to feel safe and stay resilient.
Gender Wellness of Los Angeles is honored to be here for LGBTQIA+ youth, teens, adults, and their loved ones. You are NOT alone—please take advantage of our resources, affirming counseling, and therapy support groups. We additionally provide Telehealth in California and Florida.
I know that it will take time to deal with the shock and disappointment of this election. If you’ve been on the fence about reaching out or seeking therapy, now is the time to get started.

It feels like so much is changing, yet we will do everything it takes to heal our community. I’ve been doing this for nearly 35 years, and I know that we will get through this.
Take good care, stay safe, and be well.”
